Saaaaaaalsa!

April 21, 2008

That’s right folks! Ash is doin’ the saaaaaalsaaaa!

Dontchu just love the way that rolls off the tongue? =D

But I’ll admit, I should tone down the excitement a bit. I made a turn today (I’ve forgotten what that move is called, such is my attention span) and ended up a few feet away from my original position. Our dance instructor, Mr William Lor said I got too excited =P

And this is what rocks about the dance class. There have to be people that are FRIENDLY and know each other real well. Like in this class, all us IMU people seem to be getting along real well: There’s Losh of course *hugs Losh*, Gajan, Randika, Wai Chong, Sabrina, Nirmal, Kor Woi and a few other people I’ve yet to remember names of. It’s real fun actually, we’re all new at this, so we’re learning together.

The last time I went for dance classes, it was hiphop dancing. and I went with my bestie, Jakun, who’s now miles away.  And those dance moves were pretty fun and come in handy when on the dance floor -tho not particularly useful for Retro Night in Saujana Club-  and a lot more relaxed. In hip-hop, ANYTHING can be a cool dance move. Even just walking and strutting your stuff or flailing your arms out in a very poser-sorta way. The dance itself was fun but the studio, students and the teacher, were highly distant.

This time around, everyone seems spirited and wants to learn! Plus it’s latin dancing and we’re gonna be learning a few more dances just that, we’re starting out with the salsa. Salsa’s a lil fast but it’s still fun! =D and today, we learnt like 5 basic steps and YET it was tiring cuz we had to keep on doing it and moving loads.  Then again, Ash isn’t very fit so I SHALL be groaning quite a bit.

But hey, all in the spirit of fun!

Anyhoo, what makes this class different is that our instructor is pretty spirited too =) he’s got this very ahbeng quality about him that makes him pretty likeable and he doesn’t make us feel stupid when we do stupid things. Like, he laughs with us rather than at us. And if he senses that you’re feeling a little conscious, he tries to ease you up. We have 12 girls and 6 guys in the class, hah! Which means each guy gets two girls. I bet you lot are loving this, aren’t ya?

I end up partnering Gajan AND Loshana for when Gajan had to dance with female no.2. We couldn’t get it right at first cuz the steps are sorta similar and you can get confused with em. The twirling part was hilarious.

Gajan : Ash, somehow your hand seems misplaced.

Ash : I know! I think I twirled too much.

Gajan : Alright, we’ll try this again.

*twirl number 2*

Gajan : Ash, you do not let GO of my hands! Come back here you!

=P

So that’s the salsa class. It’s fun, I’ve enjoyed our first class, we’re having one more this week, after lecture at 10.30am at the dance studio in IMU. So people who haven’t heard about it - please come (particularly the guys) because we have females that lack partners!!!

Now for the ISOW Club =D

People people people, I’m now part of the commitee of a very important club that needs a lot more publicity than it gets - The In Support of Women Club (ISOW)!

Yes, currently am heading the Publicity bureau which means that I shall be maintaining our society’s blog, also spreading the gospel word of female chauvenism around IMU and hopefully, the world! *evil laugh*  And coming up with t-shirt designs, badge designs, advertising and getting people to join us and take part in stuff. We ought to be having a Breast Cancer Awareness Week in October and possibly, some awareness campaign on cervical cancer in women. Apart from that, we’ll be having a lot more activities that benefit women and help men understand us better ;)

Oh oh, what’s SOOO incredibly cute about this entire thing is that we have guys in the society, lots of em, haha! Tho their reasons for being there, might not entirely be noble ones ;)

Activities that were hosted in which our lovely men couldn’t take part in were like the Clinique Cosmetics event where we got people from cosmetic outlets to come show us how to wear make-up la! And another event hosted by Triumph to show women how to choose your bras carefully *grins* like if you’re an D cup and wanna look like a B, please do NOT attempt to wear smaller bras cuz it’s not gonna work. Those double Ds WILL pop out of em somehow.

Zia’s our president - and I can’t think of a better one really =) and Jeremy Jumperlingam Joseph as our VICE!!! Yay!!! *hugs Jeremy* Our YesMan, a model for all men everywhere ;)

Loshana’s our secretary and she’s got Alex as the vice. Treasurer’s Gaik Si (did I get that right??) and me and Anushya are in charge of publicity! Yay! =D

With a fine crew like that, I suppose ISOW’s gonna be a lot more active and heard of this year around. So people who are reading and are NOT members, DO JOIN. Yes, even the men.

Because it takes real men to join ISOW ;)

Alrighty, that’s it for THIS post. I have more to blog but they deserve separate unique posts.
